Hi,

I’m a big Nirvana fan and a small Pearl Jam fan. I like a few of their songs and can relate to them. I think oak is very much right when he says that they are very different artists and it’s unfair to compare them. But I don’t agree when he says Nirvana is not very deep – It is more difficult to relate to, and you have to feel a similar pain to know what Kurt’s actually saying – it’s music for the heart, direct from the heart. Pearl Jam’s easier to understand, and easier on the ears and maybe that’s why more people can relate to it. Yeah everyone has their likes and dislikes so…

But if you really want best of both worlds, listen to Alice in Chains. I must say that both musically and lyrically, they beat Nirvana and Pearl Jam [I know I'm walking on fire here ]. Their music is both for people who think, and people who feel. At times in their music you’d find shades darker than Nirvana, and the energy is there too – at the same time, they also have these soft, dark songs which are like no other band, and great for the heart patients. The band chemistry is great too, and vocal duo of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell weaves magic.And to top it all, it is estimated that Layne died exactly 8 years after Kurt on 5th April, 2002(due to Heroin OD).

btw, I find it fascinating that all the four grunge greats have exceptional vocalists with unique styles. Kudos to them!

Dude this is like trying to compare the beatles and stones or zeppelin and the who….i love nirvana but kurt was surface with everything half his songs were stories already written out for him….dont get me wrong i fucking love it but pearl jam is a deeper feel….i dont like when people try to compare these two very different artist and anyone who says eddie is a soft social comformist…fuck you he still has his head : D

best bit – 9:03 – Eddie sees a sign in the audience and reads it to the crowd. It says, “This is my 100th Pearl Jam show.” I immediately start thinking about what I’ve done 100 times. Can I carry around a sign that says, “This is my 100th time spending too much at a bar,” or “This is my 100th day coming into work hung over”?
